Tradition at Mississippi State University is the biggest part of feeling at home. Welcoming our newest Bulldogs is traditionally done during Dawg Daze. Held the week before classes begin, students are invited to participate in organized activities that introduce them to the MSU traditions as well as their new classmates. It also gives returning students a chance to catch up with each other before classes begin.

The official new academic year is celebrated with The Drill. This tradition has its roots in the military history of MSU and is an opportunity for returning Bulldogs and new additions to the MSU family to gather and celebrate all the spirit and excitement that is part of being a Bulldog. It's a gathering of returning Bulldogs and new members of the MSU family.

Other events connect MSU with the Starkville community such as the Bulldog Bash, Old Main Music Festival, and the Cotton District Arts Festival.

Many traditions transcend MSU generations such as the clang, clang, clang of the infamous cowbell, Bully, and Hail State as well as fierce rivalries with neighboring schools. Whatever you embrace at MSU will always be part of your tradition as a Bulldog.
